Live Arico’s birthday party a huge success
Friday April 4th was the day, The Sound of Musicals at Karting Las Americas was the venue, where almost 150 revellers celebrated 11 years of Live Arico dog refuge.
Chris Elkington of Oasis FM and the Canarian Weekly gave us a great price for supper and the show enabling us to raise funds through ticket sales, and poor Mark was rushed off his feet behind the bar.
Tanya Tevaro and Nick Page donated a customised dog kennel for auction, it went for 300 euros, then was re-auctioned for 210 euros – amazing. Other auction items came from “Sea Another World”, Pete at Winter Gardens gym, and a case of Moet champagne from Price Rite supermarkets on the Golf del Sur. There were also stunning raffle prizes from the Canarian Weekly, Tenerife Property Links, Pretty Pooches and Hospivet Sur to name but a few. The evening raised 3,300 euros in total, and we would like to thank everyone who supported it.
As we have put all our energies into the birthday party, there are no benefit nights in the pipeline, so we need venues, please. Call Karen on the number below.
As we are struggling at the moment to keep up with collecting the many Live Arico collection boxes around the Island, we would ask that any business with a full box call Karen and she will be right there. Many thanks.
There are not enough of us fundraising for Live Arico. We need fundraising co-ordinators across the south of the island, to organise benefit nights, sponsored walks, raffles and collect the many collection boxes we have dotted around the place. If you are trustworthy, want to help the animals, and have a few hours a week to spare, please give us a call.
Remember, 65 euros on average is needed every day just to feed the animals. That’s almost 2,000 per month before we even get started on vets bills. These are quiet months in terms of fundraising, we are by no means out of the woods yet, and help is always needed.
Because of all your help and support Live Arico has rescued and helped more than 300 dogs in the past year.
We are still desperately looking for good homes for our many dogs. The numbers are increasing faster than ever and we are reaching the point of saturation. Please call Eugenio on 649 001907 or Karen on 687 905511 if you can help us in any way
Until next time, bye from Live Arico.
Lion’s Club news
First, many thanks our quiz night in March. We had a great evening at Swigs Bar in CC San Blas and raised nearly 200 euros for Lions Charities. Given the success of the Quiz and feedback from the participants, we will be looking to organize these on a regular basis and will release the details once we have sorted out a timetable!
The next event being organized by The Lions Club of San Miguel is a “Casino Night” on Sunday April 27th at Taboos Night Club, Commercial Centre San Blas, Golf del Sur to raise funds for Lions Charities.
Not only will you be able to have a flutter on Roulette and Black Jack but enjoy a full buffet meal and be entertained by a Cabaret. The evening will start at 7.30 pm and there will be a prize raffle. Everyone will be welcome and tickets are 15 euros in advance from Taboos or from Swigs Bar in CC San Blas or from Los Abrigos Properties at the entrance to the port in Los Abrigos, or 20 euros at the door on the night.

K9 upcoming event
Estrellas Theatre Academy will be performing a one off cabaret on Saturday April 26th at Pleasure Island, Las Americas
When Beth and Tony heard that K9 recently had 1,500 euros stolen from them by a gang, they decided to do something about it. As directors of Estrellas Theatre Academy, Beth and Tony are always on the lookout for opportunities for the students to perform and this seemed the ideal chance to get the kids up onstage for a worthwhile cause.
The show begins at 8.00pm and entry is just five euros, which includes your first drink. All proceeds will go towards K9 Animal refuge
It is a wonderful opportunity to see these talented kids in action. The show consists of excerpts from musicals such as Oliver! Cats, Starlight Express, Chicago and Mamma Mia to name a few.
There will also be a barbecue, in case you get hungry, a tombola and the opportunity to get up and join in the fun with karaoke planned for after the show.
A great evening’s entertainment is guaranteed with a show that is suitable for all ages. Tickets can be purchased from Estrellas Theatre Academy, K9, Mathew’s Café, (opposite the sports stadium in Las Americas,) or on the door. Tickets are also available from Pat ‘The Cat’ on 608 121 081.
Please come along and support Estrellas and K9 as they try to raise enough to replace the stolen money.
